The United Methodist Church opens baptism to people of all ages. We have a rich history regarding the Sacrament of Baptism, but our primary focus is this: We view baptism as God’s action in a human life. When we gather for a baptism, we are acknowledging what God has done and will continue to do in the person being baptized. When we receive the sacrament, we are received into a covenant with God and God’s people through Jesus Christ. Baptism reminds us how God’s grace is freely given, not earned by any action on our part, which is why we baptize infants and children along with adults.
